Thought about this through the entire Duke game, as we could not handle their inside game, and considered posting it but decided to when I saw the following post from the Duke game thread:
"Time will tell if KK can recruit top talent. Lacking the talent that is needed now and as long as there are players like Duke recruits Keatts small ball won't cut it."
I think Keatts and the staff had the pieces in place for next year to compete with anyone, small team, big team or anywhere in between. Possibly being in contention for ACC or NCAA Championships. This is before Steere and Jones left the program, but the staff did convince them to be a part of the program to begin with.
Post: Walker, Steere, Bates (assuming healthy)
Power Forward: Funderburk, Jones (especially if as good as advertised), Hellems
Wings: Hellems, Bryce, Daniels, Lecque
Guards: Johnson, Beverly, Harris, Lecque, Bryce, Daniels
Unfortunately Steere and Jones are no longer with the program. Which creates holes in the talent and depth available for the two front court positions.
We still have room for one more player and it has been suggested two due to attrition. If the staff can find one or two players to fill the spots vacant by the loss of Steere and Jones this could still be a very, very good team next year.
Possibly winning at the highest levels.
