Men's Basketball NC State at California game thread...

Normal starting five for NC State — Michael O'Connell, Jayden Taylor, Marcus Hill, Dontrez Styles and Ben Middlebrooks.

Styles makes a jumper, 2-0 Pack.

Jeremiah Wilkinson makes a 3-pointer, 3-2 Cal.

Marcus Hill is fouled and makes both free throws, 4-3 Pack.

Wilkinson hits another 3-pointer, 6-4 Cal.

Media timeout, 15:43 mark.

Andrej Stojakovic enters the game. He's missed the last 4 games with an injury.

Trey Parker made two baskets and then missed two shots.

Wilkinson had eight of California's 13 points, and the Bears lead 13-10 with 11:15 left in the first half.

Rare zone defense by NC State and Cal throws a lob for a dunk, 15-10 Cal.

Ismael Diouf had a smooth move for a basket.

Stojakovic has shown his biggest weakness, not great at finishing his drives, at least against NC State.

Cal is up 18-16 with 6:43 left. Neither team particularly sharp or intense thus far, but Bears don't have the horses to have that big run to get breathing room.

Diouf bombs in his first three-pointer of the season, but then Hill has a bad turnover that leads to a Cal run-out and Blacksher basket.

Cal leads 26-23 with 1:59 left but NC State is going to the line after the timeout.

Middlebrooks only player in the game with two fouls.

I see the New Orleans Pelicans basically gave away Brandon Ingram to the Toronto Raptors for a first-round pick, and he'll team with Scottie Barnes and R.J. Barrett.

Diouf with a nice drive to the rim, but Stojakovic got his first basket when he got to his sweet spot, which is the mid-range jumper.

Cal leads 31-27 with 40 seconds left in the first half.

T. Parker misses, but Pack get the ORB and T. Parker then banks in a 3-pointer. But then Blacksher capped his big half by hitting a smooth 3-pointer to end the half.

Cal leads 34-30 at halftime.

Hill close to a double double early in the 3rd quarter. 16 points and 8 rebounds.

Stojakovic and Hill playing some one-on-one, resulting in two baskets for Hill and one by Stojakovic.

Middlebrooks gets his third foul with 17:04 left, 40-38 Cal.

Jayden Taylor gets his first basket of the game, 40-40. That helps get him going and he later hits a 3-pointer, 43-42 Pack.

Stojakovic misses another drive but is fouled. Free throws after the break, 15:35 left in the game.

Sloppy play for a bit, but NC State takes the lead when Hill misses the breakaway layup, but Styles get the ORB and layup, 46-44 Pack, 13:42 left in the game.

Joshua Ola-Joseph, a Minnesota transfer, hits a 3-pointer, 50-46 Cal with 11:59 left, timeout.

Hill plays such great defense on Campbell to force the miss, but then Cal gets the rebound and layup.

Another good possession on defense and Cal score an easy easy at the end, 54-48 Cal.

Taylor gets fouled and makes both free throws, 54-50 Cal.

Hill continues to torch the Bears, who don’t have a shot-blocker and he’s up to 20. points.

Dort gets another easy one inside.

Timeout with Cal leading 58-54 with eight minutes left.

I hope Ben is sick or something as he looks awful out there tonight. Completely out of position several times and more worried about fouls than playing. Not his normal game at all.

Wilkinson makes a difficult drive and then Petraitis gets an ORB and makes a tough fadeaway.

Taylor keeps the Pack within striking distance with a 3-pointer, 62-57 Cal.

Middlebrooks gets his fourth foul with 5:18 left.

Petraitis gets into teeth of the zone and makes a runner, 64-57 Cal.

Cal with a 12-5 advantage on the offensive boards. Between that and NC State making just three three-pointers is the difference right now, 64-57 Cal with 3:41 left.

Poor shot selection when you’re already a poor shooting squad doesn’t help. A lot of long jumpers early in the shot clock and outside of Hill, no one going to the cup.

Looks like another fade job down the stretch, 70-57 Cal, 2:06 left.
A lot of head scratching decisions by players and staff again. McNeil is back in relegation tonight, Ben no showed, the defense which had been decent recently was really poor tonight. Really looking like Charlotte will be a pipe dream.

Keatts said on the radio that he didn't like how his team didn't follow the scouting report, and specifically mentioned Wilkinson getting off early as a situation where the guys were fluid with the scouting report.

Well its clear to me that Middleton and O'Connel have no business playing at all. I'm serious. They're terrible this year. Sit them down and play the young talelent like McNeill and some of the younger guys—plasy Pass. But keep Middleton and O'Connorlon the bench. We will have a better outcome I think. They're playing basketball like Karmela Harris politicked. Called losing

Well time to bring a popular phrase from 2022. Bottom of the Barrel! Boo better do what is right for this program and fire this overrated and overpaid Bum!

Go Pack

Teams are going to go through difficult scoring nights every now and then, however, strong defense & rebounding should always be consistent.

A common observation throughout last nights game, and reinforced through Keat’s post game comments were our teams inability to execute on the scouting report.

Instilling a commitment to defensive energy as well as rebounding is in large part a coaching responsibility. Preparing a team to execute strategy is another critical coaching role.

Our record indicates who and what we are, and at this point I would find it impossible to believe that we enter another season next year with the same Head Coach.

State might not win another game. So 9-24 and 2-18 is a very real possibly. So basically three out of last four season a losing regular season in a down ACC. Two of last four finishing dfl in the ACC. A fourth of his tenure recording two of worse season of State History. Will miss the ACC Tournament in its 1st year of excluding three teams. So no post season and a chance to defend the championship. Yet our incomponent AD will not fire overpaid and overrated coach

MOC to the bench yes. Ben - we don't have much choice. He has to play.

I find it impossible we are able to pay out the five years on his contract to remove him. Also - a tough look.... so the coach took you to the Final 4 and you fired him the next year?

Although I agree. I would like to see a change as well there's no chance of it happening. Hopefully we will do a good job in the portal in April
