The two biggest names at camp working out were class of 2022 receiver Wesley Grimes from Millbrook High in Raleigh and class of 2023 standout wideout Noah Rogers from Rolesville (N.C.) High.

Grimes is a skinny 6-foot-3, 170-pounder with good speed and athleticism who really shined in the drills and one-on-ones. The vibe from talking with Grimes after camp was over was that NC State, Duke and Wake Forest are locked in an in-state battle, but he is interestingly doing one-on-one camps with UNC, Clemson and Notre Dame, seemingly in hopes of landing offers from one of them.

While distance is not an overriding factor, Grimes did acknowledge it could play into his decision.

Rogers was making his second camp appearance at NC State, and he is already on his way to being perhaps the top prospect in the state in his class. He showed off vertical speed by running the 40-yard dash in under 4.5 seconds at over 6-foot-1 tall and 180 pounds.

Two notable visitors spotted at the camp that were not working out: three-star defensive lineman Nick Campbell from Lake Minneola (Fla.) High, on his official visit, and highly touted class of 2023 prospect Kayden McDonald from Suwanee (Ga.) North Gwinnett High. Note that Georgia has already offered the 6-foot-4, 330-pound McDonald a scholarship.

Campbell’s mother and father appeared to be accompanying on his visit.

A couple of under-the-radar receivers who tested well and looked the part were Cole Speer from Calhoun (Ga.) High and Terrell Timmons Jr. from Greensboro (N.C.) Northern Guilford High.

Speer (5-foot-11, 182 pounds) reportedly ran his 40-yard dashes at an Appalachian State camp in under 4.4 seconds, and he was sub-4.5 at NC State with some stellar marks in the shuttle and vertical.

Timmons has decent size/frame at 6-foot-1, 170 pounds and was productive last year, catching 49 passes for over 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns in seven games. Both Timmons and Grimes were around or below 4.6 seconds in the 40-yard dash.

A couple of younger brothers of current NC State players worked out at camp, with a lot of eyes on class of 2023 quarterback Lex Thomas from Heritage High in Wake Forest. Thomas’ older brothers are NC State redshirt junior receiver Thayer Thomas and sophomore linebacker Drake Thomas. Their father Trevor Thomas was there at camp to watch the action.

Lex Thomas is undersized as a quarterback (5-foot-10 plus and 176 pounds), but he may have had the best arm/ball at camp on Saturday.

Offensive lineman William Larkins from Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna prep is the younger brother of freshman defensive lineman Claude Larkins, who was at the camp to support his little brother.

Larkins is an interior line prospect and probably a center in college. He’s a legit almost 6-foot-4, 300-pounder and held his own, for the most part, in drills and one-on-ones. We would not be surprised if the younger Larkins continues to be monitored on the Wolfpack’s board given his performance.
