There was quite an impressive group of underclassmen at today’s camp, but a few seniors are worth noting.

Sean Tucker is a 5-foot-11, 170-pound corner from H.D. Woodson High in Washington, D.C. He chose not to run the 40 but did do the shuttle (4.1 seconds) and jumps (9-foot-8 broad jump and 35.0-inch vertical). Tucker has offers from Indiana, Virginia, West Virginia and Virginia Tech at the Power Five level and probably did enough to put himself on NC State’s board with his performance Thursday. Rivals.com ranks Tucker as the No. 13 prospect in the District of Columbia.

Also doing well was Tucker’s fellow corner at H.D. Woodson — Arthur White. The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder did 4.12 seconds in the shuttle, 9-foot-6 broad jump and 32.0 inch vertical. White is not as highly touted as Tucker, but he has a could of mid-major offers in Old Dominion and Toledo.

Among linemen, Delmar Glaze from Charlotte (and we believe West Mecklenburg High but he has also been associated with Berry High) had an excellent camp in one-on-ones. He’s 6-foot-4, 291 pounds with a heck of a wingspan (6-foot-11 ½). He’s not terribly athletic but he moved his feet well in the drills and earned praise and attention from offensive line coach John Garrison. Glaze has some small school offers like Campbell, South Carolina State, Fayetteville State, etc., but he has the potential to be a higher level than that.

UNC commit Malik McGowan from Charlotte Catholic also was at camp and tested (not especially well) but when we were watching he did not participate in one-on-ones.

The headliners of the juniors in attendance was four-star Wyatt Milum from Huntington (W.V.) Spring Valley High. The nearly 6-foot-6, 257-pounder has a who’s who offer list (think Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, etc.) including NC State, which came last year. This was his first visit to NC State, but the Pack has some connections with Spring Valley that it is able to potentially work.

Milum did not disappoint with his performance, running the 40 in 5.41 seconds and the shuttle in 4.78 seconds. He had an 8-foot-7 broad jump and 25.1 inch vertical, and he was very technically sound, for someone his age, in one-on-ones.

Physically impressive-looking Tristan Bounds from Wallingford (Conn.) Choate Rosemary Hall played his way into an offer. He already had prior ones from Louisville and Virginia. Bounds did not measure at NC State but at a Rivals camp he was 6-foot-8, 270 pounds. He too ran the 40 in 5.41 seconds, had a 4.75 second shuttle time and did a 23.0 inch vertical.

Bounds played with a bit of an edge in one-on-ones, perhaps too aggressive at times but we’re sure the coaches liked the toughness and attitude.

Locally, we thought lineman Diego Pounds from Millbrook High in Raleigh had a nice camp. Pounds is over 6-foot-4 tall and weighs 266 pounds. He plays both ways but athletically is much more suited to be an offensive lineman. He has a nice 6-foot-9.5 wing span. He’s raw but there’s some talent there.

NC State has offered receiver Jacob Gill from Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons, along with Wake Forest, Louisville and East Carolina. Gill is the type of slot receiver who will not win the day with his testing results but then tends to win consistently in one-on-ones (something Muhsin Muhammad was noted for).

Brandon Johnson is a 5-foot-8 ½, 163-pound corner/receiver prospect from Newton Conover High in Newtow, N.C. He claims an early Tennessee offer. Johnson was timed at 4.59 seconds in the 40-yard dash and 4.31 seconds in the shuttle and had a 32.5-inch vertical leap. We would not be surprised if NC State took a long look at Johnson this fall.

NC State took a long look at a pair of in-state quarterbacks in Kamell Smith from Eastern Guilford High in Gibsonville and Nate Hampton from Davie County High in Mocksville, the latter of whom has a West Virginia offer.

Smith is a good athlete, and Hampton is a big kid at nearly 6-foot-6, 228 pounds. There are times where the ball came out nicely from both players, but both were also inconsistent.

Zavier Short is an over 6-foot, 180-pound receiver in the 2022 class from Chapin (S.C.) High. He caught 15 passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns as a freshman, and he impressed Thursday. He had good speed (4.62 seconds in the 40-yard dash) and solid overall athleticism for a player his age.

Going younger, a rising freshman to watch is Noah Rogers from Roseville (N.C.) High. He’s already 6-foot, 160 pounds with a 6-foot-4.5 wingspan and can run (4.6 seconds in the 40). He also had a 9-foot-5 broad jump and 30.6 inch vertical and did very well in one-on-ones when we were watching.
