The commitment of Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day junior safety Brody Barnhardt was big for several reasons this week.

Barnhardt has proven the last two years that he’s a playmaker, fierce and sure tackle and has good instincts. He doesn’t have the same personality of Drake Thomas in terms of being a top recruiter for the class, but he’ll make an impact on players he knows, including PD junior wide receivers Channing Goodwin and Jordan Shipp, who NC State have been recruiting for about 16 months now.

Friday and Saturday will have several uncommitted prospects coming in, with the alumni event Friday evening and the spring game Saturday at 1 p.m.

Here is a look at the various unofficial visitors:

Class of 2024:

The recruitment of Keenan Jackson has been very regional — NC State, North Carolina, Duke, Wake Forest and Virginia Tech. He has spent most of his time at UNC this winter/spring, and his two aunts, the Rucker sisters, were married and then divorced to former Tar Heels’ stars Vince Carter and Antawn Jamison. He stopped over at NC State briefly Jan. 21, but this will be his most extended time period in Raleigh since the fall. He spent his first three years at Waxhaw (N.C.) Cuthbertson and will now go to Matthews (N.C.) Weddington.

NC State offered Shipp on Jan. 25, 2022, and he’s been a top target ever since. He’s been to Raleigh several times, and should know everything about the program at this point. He’s a vertical threat with great eye-hand coordination, and a knack for making clutch catches. The elephant in the room is how much will Michigan and Providence Day junior quarterback commit Jadyn Davis push for Shipp to come to Ann Arbor, Mich. Shipp has also spent a good deal of time at UNC and is also considering Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Virginia Tech and Maryland.

Reddish has narrowed his list to NC State, Wake Forest and Virginia Tech, and his recruitment has progressed quickly. He’s locked in for an an official visit June 16-18 and has the versatility to play multiple spots in the secondary. NC State has commitments from nickel Asaad Brown and safety Brody Barnhardt in the class of 2024, and are doing well with Reddish and other secondary targets. It should be a second straight year of quality defensive back prospects.

Taylor has just recently went to a NC State practice and he made it known he wanted to attend the spring game and then officially visit June 16-18. Like Shipp, he’s another long-time recruiting target and has seriously looked at NC State, Clemson and North Carolina, but is also considering Florida, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Penn State and Cincinnati.

The massive 6-foot-8, 336-pound Westphal came out with a top 10, but after Garett Tujague was hired at NC State and offered him, he knew he wanted to unofficially visit Raleigh. Few players in the class of 2024 have unofficially visited as many colleges as Westphal, and he’s in the midst of an ambitious schedule, seeing 12 schools between March 9 and April 23. He went to Tennessee on Monday, Georgia on Tuesday, Clemson on Wednesday, Auburn today and then NC State. He also has trips coming up to Kansas and Washington, and has also seen Florida State, Florida, Michigan and Michigan State.

Wilson is the son of former NC State great Adrian Wilson, who now works for the Carolina Panthers, and his mother also attended NCSU. Wilson has followed NC State but he said there is a lot to learn about the program, so this is the start of that process this Friday and Saturday. He has a West Coast heavy recruitment thus far, so his decision about NC State could simply be if he enjoys being out west or wants to try something different. NC State and Connecticut are his lone East Coast offers. The secondary spots could fill up fast and Wilson fits into those plans.

For Friday only:

Mascoll’s recruitment has kind of been similar to some others, where it started after new offensive line coach Garett Tujague got hired. The younger brother of Clemson senior defensive end Justin Mascoll, his recruiting profile seems to be rising with each month. NC State, Pittsburgh, Central Florida, Georgia Tech, Florida and LSU have all offered. He’s just seen Georgia, Georgia Tech and Florida, but Bulldogs haven’t offered yet.

Ghea seems to be the “it” guy in the class of 2025 at tight end, and Rivals.com ranks him No. 6 nationally. He’s up to 27 offers and he’s seen just about every school east of the Mississippi River. He has been to NC State before, going to Alpha Wolf on July 29.
