1. There was a time period where NC State would try to get a few under the radar prospects from South Carolina each recruiting cycle.
From big defensive tackle Thomas Teal to talented but troubled running back Mustafa Greene or cornerback Nick McCloud, who beat the odds and made the NFL, NC State would find a player from South Carolina who made an impact.
A big credit to those recruiting wins went to former running backs coach Des Kitchings, who is from the Palmetto State. Then there was a period where the focus became more laser focused on Georgia and Florida and not so much South Carolina.
Those winds have started to change with the recruiting success both present and in the past at other jobs of receiver coach Joker Phillips and quarterback coach Kurt Roper. With Phillips coaching the outside receivers and Roper having three scholarship quarterbacks, it’s also easier for them to zero in on who they want.
NC State is back to having a presence in the state. Junior quarterback commit Will Wilson of Columbia (S.C.) Richland Northeast will help the recruiting cause, and if freshmen receivers Christian Zachary and Jimmar Boston become impact players, that will help the cause, and same for sophomore cornerback Brandon Cisse.
The Wolfpack Central has had several stories on the next wave of South Carolina players that Wolfpack have offered or have unofficially visited campus.

NC State also reached out and offered Jordan Crim of Camden (S.C.) High this past week, who is a 6-1, 170-pound defensive back/athlete, and the Wolfpack have recruited well at his high school over the last few years. If the Wolfpack want to go after a tight end, the foundation is there for junior Mike Tyler of Hammond School in Columbia, S.C.
Add in sophomore defensive back Camdin Portis, who is making the move from Fort Mill (S.C.) Indian Land High to Charlotte (N.C.) Myers Park, and he’s another prospect with an NC State offer.
