Two-star defensive tackle/long snapper Jayden Tate, Lincolnton (N.C.) North Lincoln High

These are the top seven players ranked in order of the odds we see them ending up at NC State.

1. Defensive tackle Rasheed Lyles, Athens (Tex.) Trinity Valley C.C.
Arkansas State and Western Kentucky have been stepping up their recruitments of Luyles. As long as NC State remains Lyles’ lone major offer, and the Wolfpack appear to be serious about him, Lyles will sit at the top of this list. Lyles had 29 tackles, including 3.5 sacks, as a freshman at Trinity Valley. He is a native of Winnfield, La.

Projection: NC State

2. Three-star offensive lineman Yousef Mugharbil, Murphy (N.C.) High
We said last week that the best thing that NC State can do is keep winning, when it comes to Mugharbil. The Pack is still very much in the mix here, but it’s going to be a difficult battle to fend off Florida. Former UNC assistant Tim Brewster is leading the recruitment for Florida, we understand.

Projection: Florida

3. Three-star defensive tackle Devin Lee, McDonough (Ga.) OLA
Truth is, after the first pair comes a bit of a drop-off. A decision is coming soon from Lee, and it does not look favorable for the Wolfpack. Ole Miss recently emerged as the favorite, and that thinking has only been solidified recently. Lee did make an unofficial visit to NC State late in the summer. Lee had 53 total tackles last season, including 26 for loss and 17 sacks. He also had 11 quarterback hurries, a forced fumble and a blocked field goal.
Last week: 6
Projection: Ole Miss

4. Three-star defensive lineman Javon Nelson, Murfreesboro (Tenn.)
Nelson came out with a top five that included Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Virginia Tech. Nelson has played out his recruitment quietly so nobody really knows, but a lot here may depend on how hard NC State is recruiting him, because we have picked up a sense that some of the other programs listed on his favorites list are not all in on Nelson. The 6-foot-3, 260-pounder is listed by Rivals.com as a strongside defensive end but we believe colleges may be looking at him as an interior lineman.

Projection: Unknown

5. Three-star defensive tackle Taleeq Robbins, Philadelphia (Pa.) Imhotep Institute Charter School
Robbins came out with a top five that included the Wolfpack on it, along with Arizona State, Georgia, Ole Miss and perceived favorite Texas A&M. Even if NC State does not land Robbins, it did a nice job with his recruitment. For now though we think the Pack is a long shot with the SEC programs leading the way.
Last week: 8
Projection: Texas A&M
