• Four-star offensive guard R.J. Adams from Woodbridge (Va.) High will announce his decision Tuesday at around 2:45 p.m. He will choose either Kentucky or NC State. If we had to make a projection, we would put it on the Wolfpack.

That said, we do not have 100 percent confidence on that. Kentucky is still a factor, but as we noted last week in the War Room all the trends like seem to be pointing towards NC State.

• Two-star defensive end Pheldarius Payne from Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pa., is still listed on the commit list, but that’s not indication things could change from what we reported Sunday.

Our sources were pretty quick and adamant Sunday afternoon when they said that NC State was moving on from Payne (without further explanation). However, he will come off the commit list when Payne himself makes that official.

• We mentioned last week in our War Room extra that we put out on Wednesday, when describing the need as nose tackle: “There is also at least one prospect committed to another school that is a possibility.”

Then in the War Room Friday we wrote:

“We can say we plan to write one bio, unless there is a change, just in case about a prospect committed elsewhere that we talked about earlier this week. We will pass along the name at a later date if it does not materialize, which at the moment is what we’re leaning towards being the outcome.”

We can report things have progressed some on that front, but the highest level of sources have stressed the sensitive nature of the recruitment and thus we have continued to be asked not to name him.

We have strong reason to believe that the other school involved was not very aware (and still may not be) of how serious things were, and it may have been NC State’s hope to get to the dead period keeping things as clandestine as possible.

While things have progressed nothing is certain either.

•The commitment of three-star defensive back Joshua Pierre-Louis may complete what is one of the fastest recruiting classes in recent memory for NC State, and that’s not by mistake.

As one high-level source told us Sunday evening, “We need speed.”

Pierre-Louis joins a list of secondary recruits that includes one player who ran under 4.5 seconds at the Shrine Bowl combine (Devan Boykin) and another who is a track star (Aydan White).

NC State is still hoping to recruit Justin Harrington from Bakersfield (Calif.) College, but the Raleigh native is expected to end up at Oklahoma.

As of last week, the only uncommitted names our sources indicated they were monitoring for Wednesday’s signing day were Harrington, Pierre-Louis, Adams and the previously mentioned unnamed potential surprise recruit. We have not heard that things have changed with that, but recruiting is always fluid.
