Wolfpack Post Season Swimming 2025

Fun interview with the men's 400 medley relay team after their win. I wish Quintin would put his tooth in for interviews. lol.

In the interview they intimated that they expect to go faster at NCAA. That leads me to think either they didn't shave or they did a brief partial taper. Probably both.

Per swimswam,
The most points any men’s team scored in an event was NC State’s 124 in the 100 free. Next best was NC State’s 111 in the 1650.
Sprints & distance.
Great job pack. Imagine what we could do with divers.

Analysis of scoring by team by class.

Pack men with the most returning points (not counting Hayes and Butros). UVA, with the 6th most returning class has two top recruits.

The women with the 4th highest. Cal, 6th most returning points has an amazing recruiting class.

Feel good interview with Owen Lloyd

Nice that we had a sprint champ in the 50 and a distance king in the mile. Show’s strength in the program overall. Dino has had more recent champs than Braden has in the sprints.

Scoring the 2025 NCAA women's swimming championship psych sheets puts the Pack women 8th. Diving points were not included.
Freshmen women made up half of the Pack's qualifiers (5 of 10) and are projected to score over 75% of the Pack's 83 individual points: Shakley 44 and Pelaez 22.

Scoring the psyche sheets as if they happened, the Pack men would finish 7th. I don't think any of the teams close behind them have strong diving teams but I am not sure.

Do we have 18 swimmers going again?
Much like wrestling we have good quality depth but not enough hammers to be top 5.
Missing two hammers to injury.

This is a fun time of year for swimmers. Decreased workouts tapering for the big meet with a sharper focus. Excitement of competing against the best. End of a long season that began in September.
Hope everyone is healthy. Go Pack

Hopefully the Pack can finish ahead of Stanford.

Swimming coaches facing some roster management decisions. I haven't heard anything about State setting limits below the 30 maximum. Virginia has dropped their diving program. I would not be surprised if State does the same.

Is it a scholarship limit or a limit on swimmers who can compete for the team?
There’s always been an NCAA limit of 18 swimmers at the championships but can you rotate through 40 swimmers during the course of the year.? For example, you could use different swimmers against UNC Wilmington and East Carolina than you would against Texas or Tennessee

Lili Christianson was the only Pack swimmer to make tonight's final. She qualified 15th in the 50 free.

The Wolfpack women finished 6th in the 200 freestyle free relay with three freshmen and a junior. They are 10th after the second day.

6th in the 200 FR relay is good considering we only had one swimmer make the top 16 individually.

Erika Pelaez qualified 10th in the 100 fly and Leah Shakley qualified 11th.

Lisa Nystrand qualified 16th in the 400 IM

Leah Shakley qualified 6th in the 100 back, Erika Pelaez qualified 11th and Kennedy Noble qualified 13th.

It's going to be a tough night for Erika and Leah.

Leah Shakley qualified 3rd in the 200 back. Erika Pelaez qualified 8th. Kennedy Noble finished 18th as the second alternate.

The Pack women had some strong swims in the 100 free but none of them qualified for the finals.

Grace Sheble and Lisa Nystrand missed the 200 breast finals, finishing 21st and 22nd respectively.

State didn't have an entry in the 200 fly.

Chase Travis is seeded 15th in the 1650 free. She will swim this afternoon. The top 8 seeded swimmers will swim tonight.

The final event tonight is the 400 free relay. The Pack women are seeded 6th.

Big drop off from Kennedy Noble in the 200BK.
Thank goodness for the FR.

Nobody did the 200BK/200FL double/double. One of the toughest in swimming.

After all but the final heat of the 1650 free, Chase Travis is second. The worst she can do is 10th but All-American (top 8) is definitely a possibility. Honorable mention is locked.

When I started watching at the 400 yard point, Chase was 7th. She worked herself up to 2nd and was closing in on the leader. She swam 7 seconds faster than her seed time.

Leah Shackley finished 4th in the 200 back and Erika Pelaez finished 7rh. The Pack is 9th in team points but that position will be hard to hold. Michigan has 2 A finalists in the 100 free, 1 B finalist in the 200 breast and 1 A finalist in the 200 fly. State doesn't have any more final swims until the 400 free relay.
10th place seems likely.

And so starts the insanity - Olympic sports in college are being destroyed right in front of our eyes. SMH

Virginia is losing a lot of points from the Walsh sisters. Plenty of talent left but Stanford is closing in and Cal has 5 of the top 8 women high school recruits (according to Swim Cloud) coming in next year.
