Junior defensive end Amaris Williams has been someone I've been tracking since last June when he came to NC State's camp. He went to Spring Lake (N.C.) Overhills High a year ago and Clinton (N.C.) High this season. He can play tight end/H-back too.
This season, he rushed 32 times for 251 yards and five touchdowns, and had 63 tackles and an astonishing 43 tackles for loss (nine vs. Goldsboro), plus 18 sacks (five vs. Goldsboro) for 11-2 Dark Horses.
He didn't get measured at NC State, but I'll give him at least 6-3. He weighed 230 pounds, had a 6-8 wingspan and clocked 4.79 in the 40-yard dash. He also had a 29-inch vertical jump.
UNC offered this past weekend and USC and West Virginia had just offered. Then the usual group of five offers — East Carolina, Coastal Carolina, Libery, Appalachian State, plus Florida A&M.
Add in Josiah McLaurin at wide receiver and Clinton High will have to high major prospects to build around next year in 2024, and sophomore quarterback Nydarion Blackwell has a chance.
