NC State assistant coach Joel Justus was in attendance at the Nike EYBL in Cartersville, Ga.
I didn't see the game, but Concord Cannon School junior guard Austin Swartz of Boo Williams had the second-highest point total of the day with 29 points in a victory. His prep teammate, sophomore guard Isaiah Henry of CP3 16s, also played well, and has picked up offers from Clemson and Georgia.
Huntersville (N.C.) North Mecklenburg junior small forward Isaiah Evans was rumored to be out with an injury, but he played and helped TSF top Georgia Stars. He had three three-pointers in the first half and finished with 10 points, so it wasn't vintage Evans. He was relatively unselfish and did well passing the ball, but he might have been bothered by what ailed him this week. TSF doesn't have much around him, so if he stays with them (lots of CP3 rumors), it will be a struggle.
I heard Team United 17s with junior power forward Jarin Stevenson of Pittsboro (N.C.) Seaforth got absolutely destroyed, so that isn't a good look. It was like 62-25 at halftime or something.
I got to see Jahki Howard of New Heights Lightning, who is an Atlanta area prospect that plays for Overtime Elite. He's friends with NC State signee Treymane Parker of Overtime Elite, who watched the action. Howard was the guy who got a lot of serious hype early, transferred to play for Donda Academy in California, where he played with former Wolfpack commit Robert Dillingham. He lost recruiting momentum and slid down the rankings. He's a freak athlete, but he hit two three-pointers and hustled on defense. He came to the UNC at NC State game and I wouldn't be surprised if gets an NC State offer. I first thought he'd be a small ball four, but he will be fine at small forward.
NC State coach Kevin Keatts and assistant coach Levi Watkins should be in Georgia today.
There is a lot of serious talent coming up and the class of 2025 is much stronger than 2022, 2023 and 2024 at the top of the rankings. For me, this was my first Nike event since pre-Leukemia, and it was just good for the soul. Saturday will be games from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., so it will be a struggle probably, but this will help set things in motion for next seven months in recruiting. Next week is Under Armour in Rock Hill, S.C.
