UConn has been destroying teams and it was Gonzaga’s turn tonight.

The scary thing about UConn, they are just hitting their stride again in recruiting after the whole AAC to Big East transition. I do think the sport is better when UConn is in the national mix again. Just too much winning tradition to have conference realignment try to kill it off.

They have a clear identity with coach Danny Hurley and just enough playmaking talent. Good proven group of assistants. Of all the teams left, most unorthodox at point guard. Tristan Newton, the ECU transfer, guards point guards but the offense doesn’t run through him.

The ranked recruits were wing Jordan Hawkins of DeMatha Catholic in Hyattsville, Md., versatile Andre Jackson from Albany, N.Y., productive center Adama Sanogo of The Patrick School in N.J., freshman small forward Alex Karaban and promising backup center Donovan Clingan of Bristol, Conn. Hawkins and Clingan the most heavily wanted.

A lot of moving parts on the bench, with guard transfers from Virginia Tech, Texas A&M and San Diego.

UConn probably matches up better with Miami than Texas, but won’t want to run with the Hurricanes or Longhorns.
